knitting

I am!  I really really am!  And I'm so crazy excited about this new little skill of mine!

I'm knitting!

I've wanted to learn for soooo very long.  I've followed this blog for some years now, and she has been my truest inspiration for this new knitting addiction.  However, even the most copious Ravelry notes couldn't help me learn… I know how to crochet but not how to read patterns.

But I've learned!  Last winter, my friend, Ali introduced me to this fabulous website.  She is amazing.  I managed to knit 2 washrags.  I was astounded.  But it just sort of happened and I wasn't exactly sure how I had managed to make them!

This winter, I was determined to learn.  I revisited her website and started off with a scarf (the yellow one below), except I turned it into a Moebius cowl… and kind of modified the overall pattern.  That's how I roll.  (Ravelry notes here.)

Next I cast on for her first hat project, (the pink one) pictured above.  It took me at least 5 different cast ons… that purl stitch nearly defeated me.  But once I found my rhythm, it was a breeze!  The best part, Maria insisted on wearing it the very morning that I finished the final stitches.  The next best part… She proudly told her friends that her mommy had made it, and they put in their own color requests!  love. love. love.

She's also now an avid pom-pom maker.  so. much. fun.

In my excited fervor, I went totally crazy, visited a local yarn store and purchased this lovely Madelinetosh yarn in Molly Ringwald.  I've cast on to make their Honey Cowl.  I'm 5 rows in, started over 3 times, and have already failed to follow an entire row of directions.

In short, it will have lots of character (same as my first 2 projects).  But I am so thoroughly enjoying the process... And that's what counts.
