dog days of summer

Summer is over, but Fall is not quite yet fully upon us.  But it's close.  I thought I would take a moment to meander through those last 'dog days of summer'... those lingering, never going to end, perfect kind of days that belong namely to childhood.

While we did our fair share of adventuring this summer, the majority of our time was probably spent at home... waiting for one little person or another to finish a nap.

And these two girls... well, they just melt my mommy-heart.  They dubbed this summer, 'Super Sister Summer!'  They lived up to it in every way - Maria cracking peanuts open for Camilly, Camille fetching blocks for Ree, reading stories together, thieving my phone and watching cartoons together, art projects galore, dress up days that turned into weeks.

Moments at the James River or Ft Monroe Beach hold many a picturesque moment for me, but these moments... these go deep.  Those of 2 girls giggling late into the night after having played hard all day together.  These are the ones I really want to hold on to.  Tight.

Simple everyday memories - like reading stories from 'big books' to your 'friends', or 'helping' unpack the groceries, or finding yourself stuck in the doll cradle...

only to be rescued by your big sister (because Mommy is too busy snapping photos!)

Discovering the wonder of tracing paper (and seeming to not move from that spot for 2 days).  Relishing in the delight of a chocolate sandwich (while wearing a long sleeve shirt - because it sparkles - when it's 95 degrees out!)

These were the dog days of summer for us.  These were days I never want to forget.

It made me think about childhood summers and think about how fast time goes by. I need to start a blog or at least a journal so I never forget memories.
