dysfunctional february

I recently heard someone use this phrase and the appropriateness of it struck a cord with me.

Weeks of gray skies and snow.  If not snow, then it's wind and temps too cold to venture out in for long (at least with little ones in tow).

But then you realize the days are growing longer.  There are teasing promises that spring is on the way - sunshine, warm days, daffodil leaves popping up, robins and finches arriving at our feeder.

Then cold and gray again.  And snow expected tomorrow!

Oh but that week of sunshine that we just experienced… it makes it all bearable!  Dysfunctional or not, the sand between our toes at our favored James River spot, the sun on our skin (or at least the absence of layers and layers)… Bliss.  Pure bliss.  There is a promise of Spring to come!

And this baby girl of mine, the very same one who wouldn't more than poke at individual grains of sand this past summer?  Well, she barely made it along the little trail to the 'beach' area so enthralled was she with touching and flinging sand around!

Summer beach days here we come!

Although I must say, there is something ever so romantic about being along the water's edge in the midst of February, long sleeves and all.  Virginia and all of its seasons (even dysfunctional February) have grown on me during the past 2 years.
