lightening bugs

We were headed back from a family walk one evening in late September, when we noticing the ground was 'glittering'... lightening bugs!  Literally they were everywhere.  I'm not sure who was more excited the - girls or I.

Before the cool fall weather officially moved in, nets in hand, we headed out on a lightening bug catching adventure!

Need I say more than this little girl smile?  It was magical.

Albeit a bit crazier than I had expected!  We ran into our good friends who live behind us, who have 4 kiddos of their own.  Thus it became a dashing around of little people, a melody of delighted squeals, ...did I mention all of the running around?

Here's sweet little Lucy... patient Lucy (aka Violet).  See, once you catch a lightening bug, they don't glow.  And I really wanted a picture of one glowing.  This sweet girl patiently held one in her hand until it started to glow again.  Then waited as a snapped a zillion pictures trying to find just the right setting that would capture the glow.  It was actually almost dark in most of these pics, but my lens was letting in an abundance of light... but now I'm just rambling!

Oh it was a magical lightening bug evening.  Until we headed home and tried to calm the little bits down for bed... but there I go rambling again!
