happy birthday

Lila's 6 month bday post is coming.  Hopefully a bit more timely than last month!

In the mean time, I'm ever so grateful for friends who share their 'secrets' with me.  As the case may be, this one is a baking secret that I shall also share with you.  Always... always reserve a bit of your cookie dough when baking.  Smoosh it, wrap it, stick it in the freezer!

That way when you find yourself short on time but living with a 5 year old who's always full of good ideas...

You'll be ready to go for an impromptu birthday celebration!

Sunday was Bella's 4th birthday.  I learned exactly which birthday we were celebrating as we were putting the candles in the cookie.  Bella told us.

Oh and she also told us that peppermint chocolate chip cookies were her favorite.  Good thing I had them stashed in the freezer.  Whew!

Therefore Sunday was filled with birthday cookies, crowns, balloons, singing, and even an artwork-wrapped-regifted present!  These girls of mine know how to throw a good party.

Everyone and their grandmother probably knows about this little cookie-dough-freezer trick, but just for in case you live under the same rock that I do, here's the basics.

::roll/smoosh your cookie dough into a log

::wrap it with wax paper, then aluminum foil or cling wrap

::seal in a ziploc baggie  (You should label the baggie.  I originally thought the above cookies were going to be peanut butter chocolate chip.  I guess those were used for someone else's made up celebration!)

::when ready to bake, set unwrapped cookie log onto the counter for 10 min or so

::slice and bake!  (Slice them into pretty thick cookies as they will flatten out considerably.)
