star getters

I've been meaning to share this space with you for sometime now.  The girls' Star Getter house.  Complete with house numbers and a postal service.

Actually you've seen bits and pieces of it as it progressed in little moments such as these.

When I found the girls repeatedly hiding under their art table back in February - using the official Star Getter name - I figured they might like a space all their own.  We had originally planned on acquiring an outdoor play/tree house of some sort, but once we moved here (with only an 'outdoor area' to call our own), we realized that wouldn't be possible.  Therefore this inside winter space seemed like the perfect idea.

I mentioned the idea to Dada.  Apparently he's always (as in since childhood) wanted to create something out of PVC pipe.  Boys!  In one afternoon it was up and everyone was smiling.  The next weekend, he tinkered with it a bit more.  Really, it was like a kid with a new Lego set.  He loved the ease and adjustability of this project.

What is a Star Getter, you  may ask?  I don't know.  But it seems one should stay out of their house!  (My girl is mesmerized by the whole silent 'e' concept.  She tacks them on to every word that seems marginally in need of said silent 'e'.  We also had a lengthy conversation about the difference between "Do not stay out" versus "Do not enter."  Thus the corrected compromise!)

Really, it's been 4 months now that they refer to themselves as Star Getter Camille and Star Getter Maria.  And I haven't the slightest idea.  I have learned that contrary to popular belief, it doesn't have a whole lot to do with stars.

All I know, is that it is a special little world all their own.  Which makes it the perfect place.

We've added envelopes and mailboxes, come up with pretend addresses, and the ever adapting but regular mail exchange has been quite amusing.

Occasionally I'm invited inside... In this case it was for the chance opportunity to be serenaded by a 2 year old harmonica player while I pondered bread recipes.

I have all sorts of plans for the plain tan drop cloth.  It's lack of color drives me bonkers.  However, it always fails to make it to the top of the project list.  I had grand hopes for adorning it with sparkle embroidery thread.... but that stuff is impossible!  It unravels when you look at it much less try to thread it onto a needle.  That realization sort of burst my bubble.  Perhaps now that it is warmer some little hands and paint brushes are in order.
