Spring is here! Really, really. And not just by name this time.
It's finally warm temps with bits of sun and rain intermixed. I've made friends with this April/May version of Spring; the image of Spring that most children's books depict. Mostly warm but often times needing a light sweater. Color and life bursting forth every where you look. It's a little weird for this Cajun girl. But I think I like it. It beats the heck out of the March version of Spring, that's for sure!
This tree sits right at the turn for the back entrance into Maria's school. (The one everyone who walks uses.) I was enamored with it. First these teensy little white buds appear. Then they burst forth with such fabulous pink centers that the whole flower looks pink. In mere days, bright leaves began overrunning the flowers. And just like that, it was a regular old tree again.
I loved it. The girls loved it.
I wish I had captured the whole process. However, the routine of our afternoon hustle-nap-time-wake-up-gathering-of-extra-clothes/snacks/drinks precedes my ability to remember to pack my camera on a regular basis!
Maria has loved plucking these tiny little heart shaped flowers that grow amongst the grass. They're kind of hard to spot, and she just loves a good challenge. I love her little dirt stained finger nails.
We all loved these guys (perhaps by next year I will have learned the names for all the wild flowers around here). They reminded us of the Texas Bluebonnets we love so dearly.
And while I was trying to capture the perfect picture of our beloved blowing flowers, the littlest among us began fussing. Too much flower-gazing photo-taking for her, I suppose. I was trying to hurry, but I wasn't fast enough.
Sweet Camilly hopped out of her front seat position and decided to take matters into her own hands. She pushed them all the way to the next street without ever looking back! (Don't worry, I was following behind to see just how far she would go.) That girl was headed home sweet home!
Our Spring Walks, which have mostly turned into our walks to and from school each day, have lead to an abundance of flowers finding themselves scattered about our house... even into the Star-Getter house. (Which I discovered while cleaning one morning. :D)
There are so many fabulous colors of Spring (and more are still bursting forth as the Azaleas are now in full bloom!), but my favorites of all are probably the rich green of the clover patches and the limey spring green of the new leaves.
Oh and remember my favorite red buds of what I thought were Cherry trees - totally not... eventually I will learn their names - this is what they looked like in transition. We thought they looked like fabulous magical trees growing strawberries in mid air!
These Spring Walks are so much fun!
